Barastoc Horse of the Year Show is the place where we
expect to see the equine show stars of the future for the first or near first time.
Many of today's most notable winners started their illustrious careers as the Barastoc
Newcomer.
The quality of the fields on all
of the Newcomers classes was excellent - and for the most part these rather inexperienced
horses coped with the atmosphere and crowd very well. I am sure that the Polo Fields
siting of the Main Arena would suit the horses better - even though as a spectator I just
loved last years choice of location - the grass area right in front of the administration
building. This area was very much smaller and for people, more intimate, but for
horse quite scary and claustrophobic.
The final ten Galloways were
lovely and it is probably not surprising that the winning riders and more experienced
owners keep cropping up in the top placings right throughout the prestige events on the
Victorian showing calendar.

gorgeous Newcomer Galloways ... |
