Barastoc Horse of the Year has a glorious 35 year history with
Australian horse lovers, and is a prestige event on the show horse calendar. With
classes for all breeds from miniatures to harness horses, newcomer show horses and the
seasoned performers from shows all around the state, there is truly something for
everyone.
Barastoc is made very special by
the tireless work of the organising committee, who have the grounds at Werribee Park
looking so perfect - it is a huge team effort. The Main Arena was this year on the
glorious lawns of the polo fields - and it would be very hard to beat this as the ideal
setting for showing off beautiful show horses. The tiered seating all around allowed
the very large crown to see all and enjoy every minute of the 3 days action.
Friday presented very unpleasant
conditions for horses and riders with temperatures up near the 40 degrees.
Mercifully Melbourne threw in one of its world famous changes which saw the temperature
drop to about half of this for Saturday and Sunday - this made for perfect 'horse
weather'. There was sunshine and a light breeze, - perfect!
I have not been able to cover
all classes (1 person into 5 rings does not work out) and so have included some of the
highlights. |
