February 15. 16 & 17 2002
Werribee Park Equestrian Centre -
Barastoc Large Pony of the Year - Page 10
The ponies are always a favourite of mine - I am so impressed at
the huge improvement in quality that the riding pony blood has made to horses in this size
category. All of the ponies in the top ten classes of both size groups were breedy,
moved very well and were managed beautifully by their riders. I enjoyed watching
them and hope that this report enable you to enjoy the top ten with me.
The judge Miss Debbie Peach from
South Australia would have had to really concentrate to pick a difference - but there can
only be one winner and she would have needed to be very picky to find faults.
First to go in the final round -
the top ten of the Barastoc Large Pony of the Year is Langtree Love in the Mist, owned and
ridden by Whitney Hunt.
Whitney and Love in the Mist,
give it their best shot.
OP Special Effects -
owned by Kym Ellery (a valued sponsor of classes today) and this lovely pony is ridden by
her daughter Lauren.
OP Special Effects
and Lauren Ellery from Somerville.
Rhyl Matinee and
Marcia Beard - they had a great 2002 Barastoc having won the Newcomers Small Pony
yesterday -
Rhyl Matinee is only
three years old - what a future.
Marcia
is a former Young Rider Champion.
Phantom Park Empress
and Linda Hayes - the lovely black mare worked very well and her rhythm impressed me
For Linda Hayes and
Empress it was a foot perfect performance - I thought they may have had it ...
I could almost feel
the 'butterflies' as they waited for the judge's decision.
