Barastoc Horse of the Year - Page 16

There was a huge field- about 60 -  of the State's (maybe some from interstate) most beautiful horses to be seen at this year's Barastoc Horse of the Year.  With 35 years of tradition behind the show - it is the goal of most serious show riders to win their class at Barastoc horse of the Year.  The show has developed such a status, that good quality horses with show ring potential are referred to as 'Barastoc Prospects'.  It is a wonderful event, and with the obvious support that riders and owners give the Barastoc Horse of the Year Show, it will be around for many more years to come.

It was nice to see Racing Victoria involved in Barastoc Horse of the Year this time, as so many of the beautiful show horses began their life as a race horse, and then found there way into the hands of a showie.  Racing Victoria sponsored the Newcomers hacks which was held on Saturday.

The top ten horses were everything that you would expect from the top show horse - elegant - good looking - tall and leggy - and for the most part, well educated for their job.

hfinest1.jpg (21812 bytes) Finest - ridden by profession show horse trainer and rider Michael Christie.
hfinest2.jpg (21035 bytes) Michael did a great job with Finest who was nominated by Stephen Merry
hteamsll2.jpg (19249 bytes) Teams ll and Robyn Barry (she would normally be aboard Titanic) but took the ride on this lovely horse nominated by Sarah O'Connor.
hteamsll3.jpg (22888 bytes) Teams is a quality horse showing all of the features that keep us enthused about the big hacks.
hjordan3.jpg (22596 bytes) WS Jordan and Rachael Triffett.  Jordan is no stranger to the 'limelight' and today he worked very well for Rachel ... who has owned the horse for about a year.
hjordan1.jpg (21651 bytes) Here WS Jordan shows the lightness and grace that has won him many of the most coveted blue ribbons.

Rachael has been working with Maree Tomkinson at Hidden Valley and today's  polished performance speaks volumes about the benefit of this assistance.

hmyvision2.jpg (25084 bytes) My Vision another of the quality hacks to make it through the huge entries to top ten.
hmyvision3.jpg (22783 bytes) The nomination of Colette Gates, My Vision was very well ridden by policeman Daryl Hayes.
