Hickstead 2009 - Some Dressage News

Dressage At Hickstead 2009
Report & Pictures by Kelly Bauer

This year Dressage at Hickstead has teamed up with the Exquis World Dressage Masters and will host the CDI 5* dressage event. The horses for the ‘WDM’ events have their vet check Friday afternoon. Then Saturday sees the first battle of the stars with the ‘WDM’ Grand Prix, with both the Special and Kür on the Sunday.

The CDI3* Grand Prix Dressage started on Thursday following the Prix St George.

In the Grand Prix there was a field of 18 international competitors from the USA, Great Britain, France, Ireland, Finland, German, Canada and Norway. But it was the Americans who took out the first two places in the first Grand Prix test of the Dressage at Hickstead Competition.

Catherine Haddad and Cadillac

The winners of the Grand Prix CDI 3* were Catherine Haddad and her lovely 12 year old dark brown Gelding Cadillac, Solos Carex x Ragtime. The judges all placed this pair in 1st position awarding 70.511% which saw Catherine and Cadillac take the lead by 3.49%

Catherine Haddad moved to Warendorf, Germany from the United States in 1993 to train and compete with her horses under the watchful eye of Willi Schueltheis, an influencial dressage trainer for both European and American dressage. Following Schultheis’ death in 1995 she began training with Rudolf Zeilinger, a protégé of Schultheis.

Catherine now has her own show and preparation stable in Vechta, Oldenburg which is home to her competition, training and breeding horses.

2nd place with a score of 67.021% went to Kenneth Dyrby riding Nanette for the USA.

3rd place with 65.830% went to Hubert Perring riding Diablo Sait Maurice for France.

The best placed British pair were Judy Harvey riding Fitzcerraldo, they scored 65.660% taking out 4th place.
