Bates 6 Y.O. Young Horse Qualifier Round 1
Pictures by Berni Saunders

The six year olds had their first round assessed in arena 2A with 2B for warm-up. This was to give the organisers time to prepare the Olympic arena for the Grand Prix test.

At all Young Horse competitions, the numbers drop off dramatically in the 6 YO class and this confirms the difficulties that many horses of this age experience when they are asked to put together a test of 'almost' Medium level Dressage. Riding the elements as individual exercises is quite different to doing them one after another in a 6 minute test.

Most of the 6 year old horses did a commendable job and certainly the riders must be congratulated for their achievements.

Horse 1st Qualifying Round
  Rider/Owner Sex/YOB/Col/HH/Nat/Breed Marks Score
1 Christine Crawford Northern Simba 40.200 8.040

Elaine Harrison S/0/ Bay/17/ AUS/WB

A very solid performance put Northern Simba (Falklands Victory from a Northern Congress mare) in to a great position going into the final round. Christine Crawford rode him so nicely, congratulations to all concerned.

2 Judy Dierks PSI De Caprio 38.300 7.660

Andrea Beatty G/0/ Bay/16.3/ GER/HANN

Outdoors the glorious PSI De Caprio (De Niro) was impressive, but he lost the plot in the indoor environment. I am sure Judy will look to address these problems and hopefully maturity will go a long way to help - if not another Amoucheur? Time will tell. Good luck to all as this is a truly special horse.

3 Jane Bruce Neversfelde Julia 32.200 6.440

M & J Bruce M/0/ Ch/16.3/ AUS/WB

Neversfelde Julia was ridden by her owner/breeder Jane Bruce. They performed with harmony and grace to make it through to the final round and the guest rider's assessment. Julia is sensitive like many of the Jazz youngsters but she also lives up to their reputation for having talent to burn.

Breeder
Bruce McVey
M/0/ Bay/16.1/ AUS/OLDEN

Lizzie Wilson-Fellows did a great job with this very hot but very talented mare. She is by Campari from the Ilkay mare Belcam Isador. She appears set for a bright future as she goes up the grades and seems boundless energy and a commendable willingness to work. A lovely mare. Congratulations.

5 Belinda Flynn Bee Shangri La 29.000 5.800

Breeder
H&R Ryan
M/0/ Bay/16.2/ AUS/WB

Bee Shangri La was bred by Heath and Rozzie Ryan and by Salute from a Ludendorf mare. Owner/rider Belinda Flynn worked with the Ryans for some time and enjoyed the experience as well as learning heaps. This is a nice horse for the future but she struggled just a little at this demanding level. Good luck Bee.

6 Suzanne Doyle Wolkenbruch 26.400 5.280

Breeders Chris Hector
& Roz Neave
G/99/ Ch/16/ AUS/WB

By the fashionable German stallion Wolkenstein. He was bred by Chris Hector and Roz Neave. He was ridden today by his owner Suzanne Doyle. He showed some nice work, but he was not far enough into his training to be able to manage this test with ease. He is a lovely horse and I am sure he will advance nicely.
