VASA 2002 SADDLE HORSE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Royal Melbourne Horse Show - 6th January 2001
Champion Saddle Horse over 15 hands - Page 1

I just loved all of the top ten hacks.  Whilst they represented different types, each one was outstanding in their own way.  Again the riders must be commended on doing such a fantastic job in horrible weather conditions - with the temperature soaring to almost 40 degrees and absolutely no breeze to offer relief.  The judges seemed to be looking good obedient work, with flair, to compliment type, colour and markings.

Brian Scholes and Gary Beaton's lovely horse Lemrac's Dancing Poet was first to go with Gary Beaton up.  Gary and Brian returned from holidays to be part of this wonderful event.

Gary & Brian saw the horse when judging in the Northern Territory and could not resist buying him.

He has become an all time favourite for this pair of very experienced showmen.

hackfinal5162.jpg (20875 bytes) Lemrac's Dancing Poet has been kept in excellent order in the boy's absence by Michael and Francesca Christie.

Poet worked so well and did not put a foot wrong.  For me the trot was a little tight and lacked elasticity.

hackfinal5163.jpg (21049 bytes) Gary asked Poet to  s t r e t c h  out in
the hand gallop ... and stretch he did!

Gary looked very pleased with Poet as they returned to the line up.

hackfinal1891.jpg (21224 bytes) Another very talented 'professional' rider - Daryl Hayes on the nomination of Ms C Gates.

My Vision is a lovely coated brown horse and Daryl got a very nice 'tune' from him.

hackfinal1893.jpg (18407 bytes) It was an intricate workout with serpentines and a halt with a trot depart.  This was one of the nicest halts that I saw all day - My Vision looks  so alert.
hackfinal411.jpg (8168 bytes) A picture of elegance - Jackie Bell on her strikingly 'leggy' thoroughbred Tidings.

Judge Don Watkins gives Tidings
the once over ...

hackfinal412.jpg (11036 bytes) Jackie Bell has not been competing very much in recent times ( except for the competitions at which she qualified for this event) as she has been completing a University degree)
hackfinal413.jpg (19741 bytes) Tidings was delightful in his hand gallop
- alert and keen to please.

All of these horse could easily have won and Tidings was a special favourite of mine.
