mcanky6.jpg (11614 bytes)This page is devoted to Anky's work with the last horse - Coriolanus, the very talented and very spooky 12 year old gelding by Wunder.

He is owned by tiny Nicky Treacy who was the 1999 Equitana Fairy, and she has had some great successes with the elegant grey.

She would be the first to say that on his good days, her horse, with his fabulous elastic movement and exquisite self carriage,  is pretty much unbeatable.  However,  on a bad day when the ghosts are out, she has a pretty big job just to keep his feet on the ground.

It was fantastic to see Anky help Nicky work out the priorities when Coriolanus just does not want to listen and concentrate.

mccoriolandus1.jpg (12446 bytes) Hands down and make him listen - no ... do not see/saw.  Take both reins -  and take your legs off, and wait till he gives.

"He looks like he recognises someone in the audience" Anky joked.

mccoriolandus2.jpg (15774 bytes) "This is the feeling ... keep your hands down, be patient and make him listen".
mccoriolandus3.jpg (13581 bytes) "Release and walk forward, try to keep him down and round".

Coriolanus is just not willing to give Nicky a break and Anky asked politely -

"May I try"

mccoriolandus4.jpg (14931 bytes) I am sure that Nicky Treacy would have been pleased to see what the World's  No. 1 dressage rider can do ... when her horse is in this frame of mind!
mccoriolandus5.jpg (14238 bytes) "Down, Down, Down and bend him right - keep the legs off him when you are asking him to give to the rein".
mccoriolandus8.jpg (13582 bytes) "Trot on and bend right - see, no leg"
mccoriolandus7.jpg (11010 bytes) "Trot on,  bend left.   Keep legs off , and don't see/saw,   he must give to the hand.  As soon as he does this, release the contact.  If he goes to put his head up, legs off,   and take the reins again".
mccoriolandus6.jpg (12765 bytes) "Thats better, but I would like him lower so that he can use his back ... there is a lot of talk about too low,   but the horse will concentrate if he is deeper".

Anky was able to make a difference, but she said that she was not 100% happy with what she was able to achieve.

We all got the idea from watching this very informative demonstration.

When Nicky got back on, the horse was more settled and rounder.  We all got the idea!

mcanky8.jpg (10989 bytes) At the conclusion of the three hour Masterclass, Anky was presented these flowers by the Chief Executive of Definitive Events, Daryl Herbert, who thanked Anky on behalf of the many people who had thoroughly enjoyed hearing her advice.
mcanky9.jpg (14140 bytes) I caught up with Anky briefly, as she made her way from the main arena, she said that she had a great time and that she had worked very hard with Coriolanus who was very hot.

She said that the horses were great and that she had felt that they all got better.
