Most people seemed a little frustrated that Anky
was not 'officially' given any details about the horses and riders, and so these details
were not passed on. I did not who they all were, but cannot be 100% sure of the
horses ages and full details of the breeding.
Anky was enthusiastic, energetic
and thorough with her lessons and always made sure that the rider heard and understood
what she was asking for. |
 |
The next horse to go was
Aachensohn (by Aachen) ridden by Sue West who is a vet. Anky worked with the
training program she would apply to a good Elementary to Medium horse - although this
gelding has started at Prix St. George. Again Anky worked on transitions and encouraged Sue to ensure that
the work, to and from trot, was with only one aid. She was very happy to augment the
rein aid with the use of the voice, and felt that it was silly to prohibit the voice in
competition.
|
 |
Susie Duddy (Marheine) from NSW
was also in the category of Medium training and again Anky spend a great deal of time
helping Susie get the feel of hand without leg ... leg without hand. Susie's horse is Donna Carrera who has been in
Melbourne for Dressage with the Stars in 1998 (ridden by Susie) and 1999 (ridden by
Heath Ryan). She did very well in both years. |
 |
Anky decided to ride the lovely
mare by the international superstar sire - Donnerhall, and show us exactly what she is
looking for. Here you can see
she is asking Donna Carrera to give (yield) to the hand, and Anky said "Take your leg
forward and off the horse, so that you do not use you leg when you do not want to" |
 |
Here Anky shows - leg to go
forward and no hand. How clear
and logical she made it.
Susie hopped back on the mare, and we saw
some great work to two times changes. |
 |
Many of people in the audience
have been told by various instructors and 'experts' that they must 'support the hand with
the leg' and this point came up at question time. NEVER ... use the hand when you are using the leg to ask the horse
to go forward and ... NEVER use the leg when you are using the rein to stop.
How clear is that !!! |
 |
At all three sides of the main
arena at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, this is the crowd who all cam to see the
Dressage rider of the Century. |
