2003 Horseland Melbourne
International
Three Day Event. 5th-9th June, 2003
Report - Page 3
Cross Country
When I arrived the
cars were just 'pouring' into Werribee Park. It was more like a day at the Spring
Racing Carnival or a AFL Football game than a horse show - it was wonderful to see the
crowd support. I am wondering if anyone has highlighted this amount of interest to
the politicians involved in the Adelaide International venue problem?
While the weather was far from perfect - it was a huge improvement on the
gale force winds and sleeting rain that we saw on Friday. The brisk walk between
each obstacle made the cooling breeze quite pleasant upon arrival at the next fence - and
the atmosphere of the crowd of enthusiasts gathered together to enjoy the spectacle that
is Eventing - made it a very special experience.
We start with a few horses from the CCI Two Star
Event.
John Cooper's huge grey Overley Irish Decision parades in the 10 Minute Box.The CC score
brought them up two placings ... to 7th after phase 2.
Saddle up Viking and Bianca Craddock moved up from 26th after
the dressage to 12th after an
excellent Cross Country round - well done Bianca.
Judah and Joanne Kinross in the 10 Minute Box
Course designer Michael Creber out on course
taking particular interest in how the track rode and
how the riders handles the challenges he put before them.
Australian Olympian Gillian Rolton made up part of the Ground
Jury.
Another famous Australian Olympian who also made his mark by
riding to victory while injured is Bill Roycroft. It was great to see him well and out and
about on track.
