Competition 12 - Grand Prix de Dressage (CDI-W)
- Friday 25th Oct. - Page 4 |
The Grand Prix de Dressage continues in the Olympic arena 1A. |
 |
Sue Hearn on her
huge Thoroughbred gelding Manhattan. He was considered too big to race and racing's
loss was Sue's (and the sport of Dressage's) gain. Manhattan is very strong in most of the work having been a 'big
tout horse' for a few years now, but swinging in the piaffe would be taken into
consideration by these judges |
 |
Manhattan would
easily be mistaken for a Warmblood as his size, movement and trainability would not
suggest a Thoroughbred!! Sue
and Manhattan were the top internationally ranked Australians for a peiod in the past
twelve months - a great achievement. |
 |
Sue gets lots of
support from her husband Andrew, who is always there to give her help with the horse. Dressage is a sport that relies on lots of back and
most riders have supporters who they could not do without.
I am sure they would have been very pleased
with Manhattan's test today as it scored 64.59% and put them into third position.
Twelve months ago, this may have meant
an Olympic ride!!! |
 |
Rozzie Ryan and
Exellent - they enter at a collected canter. Exellent is very confident and secure
in his work at Grand Prix level and he and Rozzie work very harmoniously. |
 |
Exellent - this
angle gives a very good idea of the horse's exceptional lift and expression. Today there was some spectacular piaffe/passage work
but a little hint if irregularity stole marks.
It was a well ridden and accurate performance
fopr a score of 61.80% and = 7th position.
This was a little disappointing as this test
without the moments of tension could easily been the winning one! |
 |
Euphoria and Lucas
Hurps are 'new kids on the block' at this level, and it they made a great impact. Lucas told me later that this is only the horse's
fourth start at Grand Prix ... and, Ehphoria is his first Grand Prix Horse. - talk
about learning together!
Anyone who has done it, will remember the
early days and understand the big step that his level demands of both the rider and the
horse. |
 |
Euphoria is a
thoroughbred who raced until aged 6 - so Lucas has done a great job to overcome the early
training that this horse received - which is surely not a great help in dressage training! Eyphoria has a real talent for piaffe/passage and is
sure to get better. Today they scored 56.00% for 15th position.
It was a splendid performance and I wish
Lucas the very best with Euphoria.

 |
Mary Hanna on the
young and fabulous Pretender. He has such a lovely natural posture which greatly
assists him in his work. The
trot work is sensational with some weaknesses in the canter - but there was much
improvement and Pretender looks set to make his mark as an international horse. |
 |
Pretender was
imported by Mary and is by the thoroughbred stallion Playmate and from a Warmblood mare
Desiree. Thoroughbreds are having more influence as people start to demand beauty
and elegance from their dressage horses. There were some problems with the tempi changes but overall it was
a wonderful test. They scored 61.90% for an = 7th position.
Mary and Ken Marks (co owner of the horse)
would have been delighted with this result. |
 |
Campaspe Park Greta
the talented mare by Granada is very strong in the two track work and the piaffe/passage.] This cobination have been very successful and Lisa
works hard to prepare for competitions. |
 |
Campaspe Park Greta
- I felt that the horse was not as bright as usual and this seemed to cost marks - they
needed a little more energy and expression to get a very high score, but it was a very
solid performance for 59.27% and 10th place. |
The
winner of this class was Rachael Sanna on Yardley Aphrodite with a score of 65.85% and
Snowy River Blackwood second with 64.78%, Manhattan third with 64.59%, GV Stirling
Stilton fourth with 64.44% fifth was Limbo and Mary Hanna with 64.10% and sixth was
HP Finagin and Judy Dierks with a percentage of 63.46. |
