Leasa Stephen - A Cyberhorse Update

Leasa Stephen – Queensland Dressage Rider
and Riding School Instructor give us an update
February to April 2008

Talk about a hectic past 2 months! Hence, I am putting two reports together for your at one time!

February -

February saw me starting my horses back under saddle. I have 3 stallions to work at the moment-  “Galanthus” - now 7 years old and really really filling out, “Morriarty” - a 6 yr old Friesian Warmblood, and “Watching Royalty” - a 3 yr old Morgan Colt whom I am riding for owner, Mr Clarie Chappell. My lovely big gelding, “Latin Coda” is also starting back into it too...

All of the boys are on a diet of Easi response, and I have added the GroPak back in as the work load comes up, so am now very much focussing on gentle fitness and muscle development.

Another horse who came to Gypsie Lodge this month for training, is little Cinnamon. Cinnamon is a Welsh Mountain Pony Mare who came to me for starting under saddle.

She is really really sweet natured, and a dream under saddle. Is definitely going to make a little kid very very happy one day! And yes, my legs are close to scraping the sand! Cinnamon’s owner (Welsh Mountain Pony Breeder- Kim Quodling) took her to Toowoomba Royal Show and got a second place in the led class.

Me riding “Eradan Cinnamon”, 5 year old Welsh Mare- 12hh.

March -

March descended with a bang, with planning underway for the 2008 Qld Festival of Dressage. This year’s event will be held on the 28th June, with already a sold out Trade Village, and a super line up of demonstrators! The website is www.qlddressagefest.com.au This year’s event is shaping up to be twice as big as last year! I have also got Galanthus showcased in the Stallion Parade at this year’s festival, so that is something I am already working towards.

March also saw the QPPHI Crisis Committee wrap up, as the state’s South East changed from Red, to Amber then on to Green. Was a huge roller coaster ride being part of the “Great EI Eradication Race”, while it was super to be able to do something productive for the entire Qld Horse Community, it is also nice to have the time to work on my own horses once more!

Horse wise- the young Orphan Foal, “Cinders” is growing nicely, very happily eating her diet of Mare Cubes, GroPak and Lucerne... my other Prydes Baby is also very well grown- in excellent condition without being overweight, and also enjoying sharing his mum’s diet of Mare Cubes and chaff, when she lets him! Seemingly Gypsie Lodge’s next generation is well under way!

Riding wise - In March, I did a riding display for my local dressage club (Samford Equestrian Group), which I was given a horse, “PS Winter Girl”, (pictured below) to demonstrate riding and training the dressage horse.

A very sweet mare who I was very kindly given to ride for the day by owner, Ursula Lang of Paradise Stud.

Looking ahead -

Competition wise, I have Toowoomba 2* coming up in May, where Cody and Gally will get back into the official dressage circuit, and also around the corner are some associate starts for the younger string... will keep you posted...

Leasa Stephen - Proudly a Prydes Rider!
