GALA DAY
17th March 2007
Story & Pics by Berni Saunders - Page 5
5 YO Horses and Senior Champion

Class 9F: 5 year old and over Females

Jaybee Chanel by the outstanding sire Carbine.  I was a disappointed with
the placing as I felt that she deserved better - but I guess it is only a horse show!
Robyn Todd owns Chanel but she was shown by a friend.

73Hollingrove WinonaMrs Julie SmoutWunderAuthentic Heir23.507

Hollingrove Winona by the Torlea stallion Wunder whoed nice paces but
she is a big mare and gets worried by the 'big atmosphere' and
got a little strong for handler Kees Wientjens.

CordobaWeltmeyer35.501

The 'ladies of the show' were Judy Smith from Cranbourne and the outstanding imported
mare that she owned in partnership with Mrs. E B Groves. Judy is an FEI Dressage rider
and imported the mare with the help of UK based instructor Claire Ballantyne (who has just
celebreated her 40th birthday - happy birthday Claire)/  "Tess' is a St. Pr. St mare (State Premium Status) and it is wonderful to see these fantastic bloodlines coming into Australia.
She is from a Weltmeyer line mare and is sure to make her impact  in the dressage arena as well
as on the future generations of performance horses.  Congratulations to all connections.

101Northern ConstellationChristine ChristieNorthern CongressSpace Cadet27.675

Northern Constellation was delightful and it was pleasing to see the result
of a long term breeding program in action.  I bred her mum Princess Leah and
Tracy Mayhew (the Cyberhorse Guru from Queensland) bred Constellatio,
and the young filly was sold when Trace relocated to the sunny state.
Well done Christine it was great to see you and 'Delphi' out and about.

SPA Whitegirl by the Hanoverian stallion of the year
Lauries Crusado, a TB accepted for his fantastic conformation and movement.

121Hollingrove ReflectionAlison CrombieRotsponSalute30.173

Hollingrove Reflection by the frozen semen stallion Rotspon (Rubenstein) and from a
Salute (Saluut, Dutch) mare.  It is very bad luck for the owner when a mare of this quality
only gets a third place, but very good for the performance horse industry in Australia.
Reflection was bred by Bruce and Debbie Williams who operate a boutique stud in Gippsland
in Victoria where they specialise in breeding horses with top 'international' pedigrees.

Above and below - Martina Bruhnhuber's dressage gelding
Silky Oaks Tornado ... he traces back to Argentinus through his dam's
sire Aachen.  The horse is a loose mover and also did well in his ridden class.

88Hollingrove LancelotGwyn CoulthardLongchampDon Ramiro28.001

Above and below - Hollingrove Lancelot - another impeccably bred young gelding
from Hollingrove Stud.  Lancelot is a beautiful horse who impressed the judges
standing and working in his led class.  But he was not able to show his best
- as a saddle horse - as his rider/owner Gwyn Coulthard has hurt her back
and he did not take part in this section of the competition.  Lance has a superb
canter and would hold his own in any competition.

Champion and Reserve Champion Senior (supplements donated by John Kohnke Products)
91Comtesse (imp)Mrs EB Grove & Mrs J A SmithCHAMPION

Comtesse - the Champion Senior Led Horse with Dr Jochen Wilkins from| Germany.
Dr Wilkins and his wife Ulla have been the delightful guests of the Australian
Hanoverian Horse Society as they work their way up and down our vast country
inspecting and assessing the increased numbers and greatly improved horses
that are seeking registration in our country.  Australia has the third highest number of
Hanoverian horses in the world (Germany, USA and us) and Dr. Wilkins told me
that he was "very proud' to be part of the improvement in the breed in your country"

Congratulations to Judy Smith and Tess' connections we look forward to watching her
progress through the Dressage grades and show the world that Australia has come of age!

109SPA WhitegirlDr Kerry MackRESERVE

SPA Whitegirl - how amazing to have a horse of this quality 'pipped at the post'
I am sure that Kerry Mack from Mayfield Farm sees this as a victory for Australians
horse enthusiasts and she still has one of the most beautifully bred and impressive
horses in the country.  Whitegirl is in foal and we all await the 2008 event to
see her baby.  Congratulations to Kerry and Joy (the handler) from Mayfield Farm.
