Ensuring that a competition like the Sydney CDI happens and runs smoothly requires a dedicated team of volunteers who know their job well and come back year after year to ensure that the event goes from strength to strength. Many of the tasks are very specialised and require high level skills as well as a huge time commitment.
Many competitors do not stop to think that all of these jobs were done on a professional basis, the entry fees would double at least and they have the huge number of generous Dressage lovers who get in and give a geat deal of time and expertise on a voluntary basis, to thank for the opportunity to take part and have the costs subsidised by the volunteers.
Babs and Jim McSweeney with Event Director Toni Venhaus
There were scores of people to thank, however two Volunteers stepped forward on Saturday evening to accept an award on behalf of all those who helped. Babs and Jim McSweeney got involved helping, some years ago and have kept up their involvement even though they do not have a Dressage rider in the family. They are now a much valued part of the team and were pleased to represent all of the many people who enjoy the satisfaction of making this event very special for all concerned.
Thank you to all volunteers who make it possible for 'average' people to take part in Dressage. These 'personality' pages feature just some of the people behind the 2006 Sydney CDI-3 Star event.
