Roxbury
Armistice and Meaghan Willis have been very consistent with good
scores at the Young Horse qualifiers and also in open Elementary
classes. In this class, her lovely son of Rituel was not as
securely into the bridle as I have seen him at recent
competitions and he was a little hurried in his work, this is
possibly the atmosphere causing tension. This would be
disappointing for Meaghan, but I am sure she will take the
comments on board and look to the future … which is bright.

Fairbanks
Whitney. She was, perhaps a little modest in the trot but the
petite mare loosened up in the canter and showed us her
quality. Whitney was ridden by Shane Davidson (from Fairbanks
Stud in Queensland) who has just returned from 6 months in
Europe, where he has been campaigning his young jumping
stallion. Shane rode the mare sympathetically and effectively,
it was lovely to see him give a lot of little reassuring pats on
the neck. Congratulations.

Revelwood
Mon Star a nice ‘Dressage’ type with good ground covering
movement in all three paces. He was well ridden by Amanda
Shoobridge who showed her experience in preparing young horses
well. She and David are based in NSW and seem to be a stud on
the move with some lovely stallions on offer.

Chirac showed some very nice expressive paces, but tension crept
in and created the hurried steps which appeared from time to
time in this test.

Christos. Kerryn just loves her 17 hand gelding and he has been
very consistent in qualifying competitions leading up to this
final. He was not as loose as he needed to be for the big
scores, but Kerryn will look to address these issues in the
training and a year more will help his confidence and balance.

Animation and Amelia Chiravelle were next out. Connie Bookless
is the owner of the horse and she is a talented rider in her own
right and a quiet achiever who has earned respect from her
peers. Connie has a great eye for a horse and has made trip to
Melbourne on a number of occasions. I saw her ride at the 2004
Dressage Judges clinic, where her good training strategies were
acknowledged. Animation lacked the experience and polish of
some, but there was good future potential.

Kaludah
Schumann put in some hurried steps today which spoilt the flow
and expression of his work. This young stallion is by Salute
who gained a lot of fans and great respect when he stood at the
NSW Equestrian Centre. Schumann shows great promise; he has
been well started in his early work by Christine Crawford who
rode him today.

Duchess 2
is by the Hanoverian stallion De Niro (same sire as PSI De
Caprio). A beautifully elegant Hanoverian that recently joined
the stable of superstars owned by Judy Smith from Victoria. The
rider Claire Ballantyne is a very experienced presenter of Young
Horses having worked as an ‘auction rider’ in Verden Germany for
7 years. She now has her own yard in the UK and is a popular
instructor. Duchess 2 showed outstanding riding quality and I
cannot wait to see her in 6 months time.
