Adlanta Rose
ridden by Sara Mc Donald. A lovely loose moving mare and nicely
through the bridle. As could be expected with a 4 YO there some
unbalanced steps. Sarah did a great job and the Rotspon mare handled
the big occasion with confident maturity. Adlanta Rose is out of
Sara’s FEI Dressage Adloo Georgia mare (by Eleanor Russell’s
imported French Anglo Arab, Victorieaux). Sara told me that Rose is
wonderful to work with, very calm and obliging. They were the
winners after the first round of competition.

Waiiri was
nicely ridden by Emmanuelle De Denaro from NSW. This horse was a
real ‘stand out’ … by Weltmeyer and from the mare APH Fraudenberg
who is the dam of Gumboot, Weltwunder E and Wunderful who have all
confirmed her ‘strike rate’ for producing quality. With a great
proven pedigree and beautiful loose movement, this eyecatching
gelding has it all to make a real star of the future.

Weltman has the pedigree to suggest he was imported! He was bred by
Clyde Wunderwald and is from the imported Weltmeyer mare Weserfee.
The striking colt is by Clyde’s imported stallion Man About Town (Dec’d)
who goes back to the Anglo Arab Macho who is enjoyed high respect as
a positive influence in some of the world’s best performed Dressage
horses. Weltman has a fantastic modern pedigree and we all looked
for great things. Weltman was superbly ridden for maximum advantage
by the ‘in-form’ rider/trainer of 2005, Heath Ryan. Their first
round performance was not as polished as some today and they
finished this phase in 4th place.

Patou, a petite
and nicely put together mare who I saw at the recent FEI Dressage
Forum in Sydney. German Young Horse Judge, Jan Bemmelmans
complimented Carolyn Henley on her ‘eye for a horse’ and everyone
agreed that Patou was one to watch! She was a little hollow but a
gorgeous mare with great ‘up in front’ posture and frame. Patou has
very expressive paces but was a little tight to show the softness
that the judges were looking for. She recorded the highest mark for
the trot so far but a few marks lost for submission.

Wedonna and Heath Ryan were well prepared and they presented a
lovely picture for a horse in it's first year of serious
training. This 'high profile' youngster is from the
outstanding black Donnerhall mare, Donna Carrera who is
currently campaigning with Rozzie Ryan, in the FEI 'small tour'.
Wedonna is by the very highly respected sire Weltmeyer.
She has an infusion of the best performance blood in the world
and it is exciting to think that she was bred in Australia.
Wedonna will eventually suit a rider who is not as tall as Heath
as his height detracted a little from the overall picture.
However, like other combinations who chose to stay with riders
who have the experience and capability to give their young stars
a good experience, over a 'better look' with a less experienced
rider, Wedonna's owner Susie Duddy wisely opted to go with
Heath's talent and know how. Wedonna finished 5th today
which is a great result and says a great deal about her future.

Fridensfurst is a very nice type with good paces and will mature
into a good prospect for the future. In this first round his walk
was a little hurried, revealing tension and inexperience. The well
conformed chestnut is by the frozen semen stallion Fridensfurst from
a mare by Flemmingh. He is owned by Michelle Hicks and the breeders
of the horse. Michelle worked in Germany as an auction rider for
quite a few years and also did a stint at Belcam Stud in Queensland.

APH Ludo Very attractively marked chestnut
with a lovely soft trot. By the imported stallion Lubek, this horse
shows very nice quality for the future. A very good quality canter
and the marks reflected the importance of this pace.

Waca W, by
Weltmeyer from an Olympic Ahorn mare … so the pedigree for a future
star is there! This horse was ridden by Australian based German
Silva Stigla who rode very nicely. The canter today was a little
flat and lacked the bit jump that we would hope to see from this
mating. At 4 years of age, some horses just cannot balance enough
to show a superstar quality … This is one to watch and with Silva in
the saddle, the sky is the limit.

rode Rachael Calhoun’s gorgeous brown mare Jaybee Collette (full
sister to Jaybee Colleen). Earlier in 2005, Collette beat her ‘high
achiever’ sister for Supreme Champion Warmblood at the Brisbane
Royal Show. The two are by the imported stallion
Carbine and have taken
on his style and swing through the back. Jaybee Collette worked
very obediently, but I felt that we did not see the best of this
delightful mare today. She is very soft and compliant but needed
more energy to show the judges her top performance potential.

Willow, was nicely ridden by the delightful Ruth Schneeberger from
SA. The trot lacked some of the swing and expression that was
present in the top scoring horses, but Ruth rode to best advantage –
well done!
