Eventing Australia Report for 1st November, 2004

NEWS REPORT – 1 NOVEMBER 2004

by Adam Fawcett

DUTTON WINS HIS THIRD TITLE AT FAIR HILL INTERNATIONAL

Sole American based Aussie Phillip Dutton has won a record third title at the Fair Hill International last weekend, cementing his place as one of Australia’s most successful exports.

Dutton won his third title with the up-and-coming The Foreman by just 1.8 points from the in-form American Kim Severson and Royal Venture.

The pair placed 4th after the dressage with 46.2 and just like Sonja Johnson and Ringwould Jaguar at the Eventing World Cup Final last week, they were the only combination to have a double clear cross country to move into pole position ahead of the show jumping.

The Foreman backed up his feat in the cross country to jump another double clear show jumping to clinch the title from Kim and Royal Venture, with fellow American Stuart Black and Fleeceworks Blackout 3rd.

Phillip also finished 5th with another up-and-comer, Amazing Odyssey who moved an incredible 30 places from the dressage by having just 2.8 time cross country and a double clear showjumping to finish on a final score of 65.0.

Phillip’s front-runner, Connaught, was withdrawn following his 7th placed dressage test.

Interesting also was the performance of the former Georgia Clifford ride Let It Rain, who now calls America home with US rider Cricket Worthen. The mare finished in 32nd place after some time cross country and 3 rails show jumping.
