Team Jumping - 24th August 2004 Final Round Team Jump-off

There are ten nations through to take part in the teams jumping final which started at the Markopoulo Olympic Equestrian Centre at 8.30 pm.  This made it a very full-on day with showjumping through till 12.30 am with a break in between the second and third rounds of the team championship.

Four times gold medallist Ludger Beerbaum from Germany was the first one out and the team will be  looking to successfully defend their two gold medals from Sydney and Atlanta.  Belgium go into round three with very good chances at a medal on a team score of 12.

The second round of the team competition also serves as the third qualifier towards the individual finals which will be on the 27th August.

American Breezie Madden comes to this round as the top scoring individual with zero penalty points against her name.  She rides her Dutch gelding Authentic.  There is just one time penalty separating Breezie from Juan-Carlos Garcia from Italy and Ludger Beerbaum from Germany, so it is set to be an exciting team final.

The final starts with the nations starting in reverse order with Brazil first to go first,  followed by Ireland, Italy, Brazil, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, The Netherlands, United States of America, and finally the competition leaders at this point Germany.

Germany have such a solid lead with 4 penalty points after the first round and short of a total disaster in this session they will take the gold medal home with them.  The Germans are still unsettled by the decision affecting their Eventing team, but the job for this evening is to stay focused and minimise mistakes.
