Queensland's Sydney 2000 Olympic
representative Dr. Ricky McMillan on her imported gelding Crisp 'danced' to a great rock
collection of Hotel California and music in similar context. Crisp can really Piaffe, so of course the test used
his forte to embellish the artistic presentation and earn technical marks. |
 |
This test gave us the chance to
see what a great deal of exposure to the best horses and riders in the world can do
- Ricky regularly travelled to Germany in 1999/2000 to train with Crisp who was
stabled there during her preparation for the Games (I wonder what she has done with her
frequent flyer points?) This
was my winner, based on the horse's strength in the high marking movements, but it ended
up a close second on 68.99% |
 |
Victorian airline pilot Emma
Youngman and her delightful Swedish warmblood stallion Rasputin. As a 9 year old, and in his first season of Grand
Prix, this horse was my special favourite.
Rasputin seems to work with a 'smile' on his
face and he and Emma have a great rapport. |
 |
Rsputin shows his talent for the
technical side of his Grand Prix Kür, some inexperience is still apparent but time
will make this one of our best future International prospects. Emma chose a bold 'jazzy' collection of tunes to
highlight her test - they scored 62.47%, and with this score I cannot understand why Emma
would have been dropped from the National Talent Squad - maybe I heard it wrong? |
 |
NSW combination Sue Hearn and
her wonderful 17 hand Thoroughbred gelding Manhattan, just keep getting better and
stronger. Her choreography was
ambitious with double canter pirouettes - and she pulled it off. |
 |
The music Sue chose was a
compilation of 'rocky/beaty' numbers that expressed the horse's power and presence very
nicely. Sue has worked very
hard and has received lots of support from her greatest fan - husband Andrew and is now a
regular on the podium at the top National events.
A great score of 64.38% and they were 4th. |
 |
Mary Hanna and Limbo were last
to go and began their test to the mood setting themes of James Bond. With a prize purse of $10,000 for this event - he
could truly be called 'Goldfinger' (hoof)
Mary rode like the money mattered, and the
test was powerful and well prepared. |
 |
There is still some swinging in
the Passage, but it is better, and the transitions to Piaffe were even and balanced. The canter work showed the excitement that freestyles
are famous for ... and the flying change sequences were wonderfully straight.
They scored an enormous mark of 69.25% ...
and Mary was smiling every time we saw her for the next two days - well done for a great
ride. |
 |
Even in the lineup, Limbo cannot
resist the opportunity to do some Piaffe. |
 |
Daryl Herbert - Chief Executive
of Definitive Events ( who have done a super job with the organisation of Equitana Asia
Pacific 2001), warmly applaudes the winner and placegetters. |
 |
Anky Van Grunsven, the sponsors
and organisers, congratulate Mary Hanna and Limbo on their Grand Prix CDI-W Kur win
at Equitana Asia Pacific 2001. They
were also the overall Grand Prix CDI-W winners, and look set for a place in the final in
Europe in about April 2002. |
