Following the final hit out at
the Highclere one day event in England on Monday 26th August the EFA is pleased to
announce the horses and riders selected to compete at the 2002 World Equestrian Games.The
six horse and riders are

Phillip Dutton House Doctor
Andrew Hoy Moonfleet
David Middleton Willowbank Jack
1st Reserve Bill Levett Time Will Tell VI
2nd Reserve Matt Ryan Kibah Sandstone
3rd Reserve Brook Staples Master Monarch
The horses will undergo a veterinary examination on Tuesday morning England time and
will be required to pass this examination in order to retain their position. If one or
more of the 6 selected horses do not pass the veterinary examination the reserve horses
and riders will come into the team in order of ranking as listed.
The team of 4 to contest the team competition and the 2 individual competitors will be
named following the trot up at the World Games on September 11th
One of the features of the team of 6 is the experience at three day event level and
includes 3 Olympic gold medalists in Andrew Hoy, Phillip Dutton and Stuart Tinney who have
won 7 Olympic medals between them. David Middleton has been the form rider in Australia in
the past two years and earns his place for his first senior team at a World Games level as
does Sammi McLeod who was in the squad for the 1998 World Games but missed out on
selection. Olivia Bunn has the opportunity to compete at her second World Games having
been Australia's highest placed rider at the 1998 WEG finishing 8th as an individual.
The depth of Australian Eventing is reflected in the fact that Olympic gold medalist
Matt Ryan and 2000 Olympian Brook Staples are listed as reserves along with UK based rider
Bill Levett.
