EFA Funding Guidelines
for Eventing World Cup Final
The EFA will provide funding to assist an Australian based horse to attend the CIC
World Cup Final to be held in Pau, France from 23-26th October 2003. The guidelines for
this funding are as follows
Only one horse from Australia and one from the UK will receive funding however this
does not prevent other qualified horses from participating in the Final
The horse with the highest score from a single qualifier will receive the horse
transport funding. If there is more than one horse on the same points the funding will be
determined by adding the points together of the highest score plus that horses next
highest score gained at a CIC qualifier held in Australia or Overseas. The horse with the
highest points will receive the funding from Australia and UK respectively. As an example
- horse A gains 30 points at Werribee and 18 points at Warwick whereas horse B gains 20
points at Werribee and 30 points at Warwick. Horse B will receive the Australian based
funding based on a total of 50 points vs 48 points for horse A. The same example applies
to the UK based horses at their respective World Cup qualifiers.
If the horse that meets the funding guidelines is not able to attend the Final the
funding will be offered to the horse with the next best results (i.e. the next highest
score at a qualifier). If there is equality between horses the funding will be available
to the highest point score across the two qualifying events. If there is still equality
then the horse with the best cross country score will be offered the funding.
Guidelines
The funding is part of the high performance program and therefore the guidelines must
fall within the objectives and philosophy of the high performance program. The aim of the
high performance funding is to support horses and riders that are seen as likely
contenders for future Olympic and World Games teams. The World Cup funding guidelines
reflect this philosophy.
Funding
For Australian based horses - The horse transport cost of one horse will
be paid by the EFA based on single stall rate from Australia to Europe and trucking to
Pau. This equates to approximately $12,000.
If the horse that qualifies for the funding is listed as an elite squad horse, or is
regarded by the selectors as a contender for future teams the EFA may choose to
contribute a subsidy towards the return cost of the horse. In a WEG or Olympic year
this return may fall within the plans for the Australian team campaign rather than as a
separately funded trip.
For UK based horses - $2,000 will be provided to the highest placed UK
horse. This funding is based on the amount provided as per the 'Competition Support'
guidelines for the elite squad.
To receive the funding the horse must have gained a veterinary clearance by the
National team veterinarian.
Rider travel - If the rider is not able to travel on the same flight as
their horse the EFA will provide funding for all riders that participate in the Final
irrespective of funding they receive for horse transport.
Australian based riders : return economy airfare based on quotes receive by the EFA
UK based riders : return economy airfare from England to Toulouse
Note : Due to Phillip Dutton being the only Australian riders based in
USA if Phillip qualifies for the final funding will be provided to him in accordance with
high performance panel guidelines.
