MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL THREE DAY EVENT
6th to 9th June 2003

PRESS RELEASE
17 February 2003

After the eventing community pulled together last year to ensure Australia’s oldest three day continued it in fact made a profit and repaid $10,000 that EFA Victoria financed for previous losses, thank you to everyone.

This year the same committee has had more time to plan and has some great additions.

NEW COURSE DESIGNER MICHAEL CREBER

After Wayne Roycroft so generously donated his skill and time last year Michael Creber has taken over as Course Designer for this years event. Arguably Australia’s most lateral thinking International Course designer, Michael is famous for establishing the Adelaide and Spray Farm courses. He has already developed a brand new track for Melbourne, with a lot more fences closely placed in the Camel Paddock and Mansion gardens including the reestablishment of the beautiful lake complex. With Ewan Kellet again in charge of building the course is well underway.

CIC*** WORLD CUP QUALIFIER

In addition to the CCI */**/*** classes Melbourne has applied to be one of two Australian World Cup Qualifiers for the CIC World Championships in Pau, France later this year. The EFA National High Performance Fund will finance a one way rider and horse airfare for the winner on a points system from Melbourne and Warwick to represent Australia!!

The CIC*** class will be run over the same course as the CCI*** and should ensure a spectacular rider filled competition. This will also provide a practice run for the lead up to the Athens Olympic Games CIC format in 2004.

WINTER SHOPPING FARE

By June you will really be looking for all those warm winter rugs and coats and Melbourne will be the largest winter range from over 20 retailers of these in one place, a horsey persons paradise!

INDOOR DRESSAGE and CLINIC

On the morning of Saturday the 7th June, Melbourne will host a clinic with the International Head of the CCI*** Ground Jury and several top Australian riders indoors.

This will be followed by the CIC*** and CCI*** dressage indoors, a great days entertainment and learning. After its huge success last year the jumping final will be held for all classes indoors on Monday 9th June and is sure to be a sellout!

GOLD PASSES

A new gold pass that includes prime seating at the dressage clinic and indoor dressage, a marquee on cross country day by the water fences and prime seating indoors for the jumping final will be available soon at around $100. Watch the magazines and mailouts for this must have long weekend gold pass.
