The Sydney International Equestrian Centre,
scene of Australias history making third Olympic team gold medal win, will once
again be the host of a major equestrian event - the climax to a weekend of equestrian
activities including showjumping, vaulting and various displays to be held at the
Sydney International Equestrian Centre, Horsley Park on 23 September 2001. This has been
timed to coincide with the Olympic anniversary. This
inaugural event is a true one day event, with all three phases (dressage, cross country
& showjumping) all being held on the one day. It carries the highest international
classification CIC***, as set down by the international governing body of Federation
Equestre Internationale.
30 top Australian and international riders will contest
this event, including Sydney Olympic Gold Medallist, Stuart Tinney. With the World
Equestrian Games fast approaching in 2002, competition will be hot.
There will be strong emphasis placed on additional family
entertainment such as a course walk with competitors, Tradestands, and a special guest
appearance from Steven Jefferies, the lone stock horseman who opened the Ceremony at the
Sydney Olympic Games.
A major sponsor is presently being secured. Other sponsors
include Bundaberg Rum & Carlton United Breweries, who will be providing bars.
Organisers, the Equestrian Federation of Australia, The Olympic Co-ordination Authority
and National Parks & Wildlife Service of NSW, anticipate a spectator attendance
between 10,000 and 15,000 on the Sunday for the one day event.
