Press Release 5th April 2002
NEW IMAGE FOR AVENEL HORSE TRIALS

Avenel Horse Trials 2002 will have a new image in more ways than one. The new landowner of "Grenada Park", Gerry Ryan has renamed the property "Limerick Lane" and is developing the property as a thoroughbred showplace. Gerry is a very successful racehorse owner who is very keen for the Avenel Horse Trials to continue on the property and re-establish it’s position as leading Horse Trials in Victoria.

The Horse Trials has gained international status and will run CIC*** and CIC** this year in place of the National Advanced and Intermediate classes. National classes at Novice and below will still be conducted. As the FEI has raised the bar for International Three Day Event qualifications, CIC’s now play an important role to ensure that our competitors obtain the necessary qualifications to compete in Three Day Events.

A new "look" is being developed for the Horse Trials. The Committee has developed a five year plan and stage one of this plan will see minor re-routing of the cross country courses to integrate with the property developments, upgrading of the cross country to cater for CIC classes, changed access to the Horse Trials facilities, and changes to the main arena (centre of the trotting track) to include showjumping, CIC Dressage and administration area.

Opportunities exist for sponsors to become involved with this exciting development.

The event will be conducted on 27th & 28th April. Entries close on Friday April 5th.
