It is now down to the final few Grand Prix horses who
started this Grand Prix competition in order of the draw which was conducted at the
cocktail party on Thursday evening.
Centaur - such a personality !!! He and rider Ann Serrao have
really had a wonderful year and would be very correctly considered to be the very big
improvers on the Australian Grand Prix Dressage circuit.
Centaur is not the usual 17 hand monster, but a pretty
and petite 16 hands and well suits his rider who is tiny. Centaur recently took part
in the Mane Event at Equitana and had the honour of carrying the special guest - Ulla
Salzgeber.
This test was not as good as I have seen them
do with a few mistakes which easily could have been avoided. Things like the wrong
number of steps in the schaukel (halt, rein back, walk forward, rein back) and at this
level such errors are very costly. There was also a mistake in counting in the
canter zig zag. But this is really looking to see where the marks went - it was
still a pleasing score of 62% and gave them a very creditable 6th place.
A well deserved pat for Crisp and the end
of his wonderful test.
Crisp and Ricky McMillan are always a joy to watch and this was the
best that I have seen them work! The canter changes were a highlight - so fluent,
big and of course correct. The P{piaffe/Passage is a specialty and it was the best
today. What more can I say ??? The score of 67.96% says it all and would have made
the trip very worthwhile and rewarding for Ricky.
Mary Hanna and her World Equestrian Games partner Limbo put in a
very nice performance. I felt that Limbo was a little tense as he was grinding his
teeth a little. It is a very big atmosphere and so some tension is very
understandable. The work was polished and the judges liked what they saw - a score
of 65% is a great result at this level.
Ricky McMillan goes through to the Freestyle test as the winner
after the first leg of the CDI-W Australian Final.
