Space Cadet (NZ) 16hh Danzatore (CAN) - Star Lot (NZ)
Space Cadet or Spacey as we call him, is a thoroughbred stallion who was born in New Zealand in 1995, at the renowned Trelawney Stud. He by Danzatore, a stakeswinning son of Northern Dancer, who has produced the winners of well over $10 million during his stud career.
Spacey's mother was Star Lot, a Group 2 winning mare, who has produced several high class horses, including Starline, who won the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks and Acumen, who was second in the Group 1 Victoria Derby and the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes.
His second dam was Starlit, the Group 1 winner of the Telegraph Handicap and Champion NZ 2-Y-O. She was one of the best daughters of Star Kingdom. His third dam was Cabonne, a daughter of Summertime, also a Group 1 winner and Champion 2-Y-O Filly of her year.
Space Cadet sold as a yearling for $275,000, undoubtedly because of his illustrious pedigree and his magnificent conformation. Unfortunately his racing career was very ordinary, with a win in a modest maiden his best achievment. Perhaps his full potential was never realised, as he ran fourth in a stakes race at his last start (only his 10th race start). He subsequently injured a hind leg and was retired.
In 1990 he commenced a stud career at Hollybrook Stud and has now produced over 200 foals. While many of these are not yet of racing age, he has had many winners, including a dual stakeswinner, Niarchos, who won the South Australian Sires Produce Stakes. He is also the sire of over 40 other winners, including a number of metropolitan performers, such as Space Cash, Ponbar Ghost and Alien Fella..

We normally have a selection of Space Cadet progeny available for sale. Please refer to our Horses for Sale section.

Space Cadet is available for breeding at a fee of $1500 for thoroughbred mares and $1000 for other breeds.

Space Cadet as a Performance Horse Sire
spacey150.jpg (12440 bytes)

With his first foals now 7 year olds, Space Cadet is starting to make a name for himself as a performance horse stallion. He tends to get very good looking, good moving stock, with great intelligence. This is not surprising, given that the grandsire of Cabonne was Precipitation, who is noted as a very positive influence in performance horse breeding.
We have experimented with duplicating Precipitation blood by putting Spacey to mares with Precipitation in their pedigree. Without exception, the results have been outstanding, with a good example being Bo, our most recent addition to the Hollybrook dressage stable, and Roly a 1995 gelding who was purchased by Michael Baker and Laura Darvall, who are furthering his basic dressage training to include the jumping and cross country elements which he will need to learn in order to begin his eventing career!
