Our
Mares - the strength of the Tashkent Team.
Tsjallinkje
Tsjallinkje
(Inca, pictured right) was our first Friesian. We found her in Victoria at Black Minx Stud
whilst still with her dam. After weaning she made the long trip from
Melbourne to Dungog. Expecting the worst (she was several hours later than
expected) we waited breathlessly as the truck ramp came down. It was pitch
black, the engine was running and the headlights illuminated the fence of
our yards, only meters from the grill
Out sauntered
this round, black baby, totally unconcerned by her journey or her
surroundings. We squeezed past the throbbing engine and lights, led her into
her stable, where she sniffed at the water, took a quick sip and then hoed
into the feed that was waiting for her.
Inca matured
to be a typical Friesian of the Baroque type,
with luxurious mane and tail, a short back and nicely rounded lines. She is
a BBook
1 mare, which means she is purebred but not by a fully licensed stallion.
Inca
endeared us to the Friesian Temperament and we have valued the contribution
of this lovely mare. Sadly
Tsjallinkje (Inca) died in January 2008, leaving a 5 week old filly foal
Zalika TK, by Django.
Inca (Tsjallinkje) came down with what turned out to be a non salmonella
bacterial enteritis. We initially treated her at home with antibiotics
and fluids as we were in the red Zone and all the vet hospitals were in
the purple Zone. Once we moved her and the foal, we would be unable to
bring them home. When she didn’t respond to treatment we eventually got
a travel permit on 31 December and drove her and Zalika the 3 hours to
Satur’s Vet hospital where she could get round the clock care. Initially
she seemed to be responding well to treatment but died of a heart attack
shortly before midnight. Zalika stayed at the vet clinic until she was
safely drinking from a bucket, then had to be transferred to Christine
and Jeremy’s (North Kaludah Stud) as we could not bring her home and
give her the care that she needed. Zalika has been purchased
by local enthusiast and now lives on the adjoining property to Django
and Jacana, so it is nice for us that Inca’s last foal will stay close
to 'home' and we can watch her grow up. Inca was our first Friesian and
the reason we fell so in love with the breed. She was not the most
athletic of our mares but she was the epitome of the old style carriage
Friesian. She has a daughter in New Zealand (Id’riel TK, by Teunis), a
son in QLD (Osiris TK by Remmelt) and two daughters in NSW, Urielle TK
and Zalika TK both by Django.
Our broodmare band now consists of Tia (Neinke fan Faldens) Imp Star,
Ymkje Z Imp Star, Robyn van Gelder Imp (by Andreas), Sittella of Black
Onyx Imp in utero (by Folkert) and Siena TK (by Fabe out of Ymkje Z).
Robyn, Sittella and Siena will be presented for the Keuring in 2009.
In addition we have a paint mare Vancouver Park Miss Watch (Watch the
Duco) who has had one foal by Django (Domega - for sale) and is
currently in foal to him for a early 2009 foal. Next season we will be
putting her in foal to Coppabella Visage.

Nienke Fan
Faldens
This lovely
mare, called Tia (right) at home, was found for us in the Netherlands. She was six
years old, had already had two foals and had been awarded the coveted Star
status, putting her amongst the top 25% of Friesian mares. She is a gentle
horse, that loves attention and would be happy to spend all day just
standing around in your company. But when she moves she takes your breath
away
Tia has not
had much training under saddle, but she is far to good a horse to be wasted
as just a broodmare. So whilst she will be doing her bit to swell the
numbers at Tashkent we are also hoping to further her education and get her
out under saddle
In March 2006
Nienke gave
us out first Django foal - a delightfully correct and true to the breed
filly -
Teora TK. Unfortunately
because we have so many close relatives she was sold but has delighted her
owners with her charm and calm. We know
that she will always have a special place in our hearts and we expect to see
her make her mark as a competition horse.
Ymkje Z
Ymkje
(left) is the last of the adult mares currently at Tashkent. Like Tia, she
was imported from the Netherlands and is Ster mare. When we first saw her,
we were knocked over by the way she seemed to float above the ground, but
she wasn't in foal, so we chose to buy Tia instead
Once we got
back to Australia though, we just couldn't forget this mare and so made
arrangements to buy her after all. She was now confirmed in foal but it was
too late to fly her here, so she remained in NL until she foaled. She
produced a magnificent colt, and despite the fact we had decided we would
not bring a colt over here, he promised to be a good one, so we relented and
he traveled out with mum. Our decision was vindicated when, 4 days before he
left NL, he was presented for his foal classification (Keuring) and was
awarded a first premium. Something very rare and only given to the top 5% of
foals. Ymkje had already proved her worth to our breeding program.
