ASHS SA State Futurity & Maturity Show Results - 17th Feb 2009
The SA State Futurity & Maturity Show for 2009 was conducted at the Lobethal Polocrosse Club Grounds in the Adelaide Hills on Sunday 8th February 2009, a day later than originally planned.
The extreme hot 40C plus temperatures and poor weather conditions over the previous two weeks in SA had played havoc with competitors getting their young stock ready for this show. A number of competitors re-captured the joy of riding at night when it was cooler or at daybreak in the mornings in their efforts to prepare their young horse in time.
Accredited ASH Judges Tracey Heinrich and Ann McClelland from NSW officiated and were pleasantly surprised at the efforts of competitors to turn out their horses in such great condition even though the weather leading up to the show had been so unusually hot.
The first event on the day was the yearling filly class taken out by the outstanding young filly Memphis Park Newmarket (Memphis Park Memory/Tarocco), which is the first progeny by ASH Sire Memphis Park Memory to grace the show ring.
The Yearling Colt/Gelding was won by a stunning young colt, Broughtonvale Renaissance (Bryjen Forte Talon/Broughtonvale Sentiment) shown by Lesley and Murray Hall and owned by SK LT and S Edwards. He was a credit to his age group and impeccably turned out for this his first State Show.
The two year old filly class was won by Broughtonvale Watercolour (Noble Vintage/Broughtonvale Minx Kote) owned by SK LT and S Edwards and presented on the day by Lesley and Murray Hall, with Chalani Jive (Vancouver Park Watch My Duco/Dream Venture) owned by Kim Ide a close second place.
The two year old colt/gelding class was won by Myarra Leo (Glen Devon Kelso/Myarra Phoebe) shown by the Fenn Family of Balhannah.
The three year old futurity was one of the larger entry groups and the eventual winner was the beautiful Chalani Dance (Splashdance/Chalani Giselle)owned by Kim Ide (nee Gower). This lovely young filly has been very successful in the ASH and hack ring and has a superb temperament to match, a tribute to her Chalani bloodlines.
The four year old maturity section was the biggest entry group on the day with a number of the sections being very close in final placings. The eventual winner was a very delighted Jacqui Kohler with her entry Midnight Diesel, who was the first ASH that she has bred herself.
The five year old section although did not attract large numbers, was still a great contest. The overall winner was Drydens Run Cody (Yarrawa Coolabah/Drydens Run Darcy), owned by Lindsay Cadzow from the South East of SA.
In an effort to encourage all members to enter, we now hold a six years and over age group Maturity. The winner this year was consistent SA Central Branch competitor Annika Danielsson and her gelding Jondel Rivoli Jackpot (Jondel Rivoli Wonder/Vet School Matilda).
The Junior Judging event was won by Chari-Lee Hoad with new ASH member Brooklyn Timmins coming a close second. Our youth members enjoyed the event and paid attention to judges comments and learnt a great deal on conduct and presentation from both judges during this class.
The Stallion Progeny Group was taken out by the Progeny of Knights Valentine, with Attunga Gem (Knights Valentine/Kareelah Treasure), Kaylee Park Bandit (Knights Valentine/Oaks Bell Star02) and Myarra Quasar (Knights Valentine/Albemarle Fidget).
The Mare Progeny Group was won by the progeny of ASH Mare Chalani Aurora, with Chalani Apollo (Mr Cromwell/Chalani Aurora) and Chalani Auster (Splashdance/Chalani Aurora)taking the blue ribbon.
At the conclusion of the Futurity & Maturity show the SA Central Branch ran a challenge event with much fun and laughter amongst the competitors. See below for full details of the challenge event winners.
The ASHS SA Central Branch Challenge had both Encourage and Open sections, with a number of competitors very close on points and vying for the prize money on offer.
The open section was won by Lindsay Cadzow on Drydens Run Cody from the SE of SA and the encourage section was won by Rachel Fenn riding Dombarton Cabernet a local SA Central Branch member.
All in all a great days competition, that would not be possible without the continued hard work of the SA Central Branch Committee.
