State Pony Club Show Riding - Grafton

THE TOP NSW PONY CLUB SHOW RIDERS ARE GEARING UP TO COMPETE AT THE STATE SHOW RIDING CHAMPIONSHIPS IN GRAFTON ON 6th AND 7th DECEMBER.

Over 190 Pony Club riders will gather at the Hawthorn Equestrian Park in Grafton to compete in the 2009 Show Riding Championships on the 6th-7th December.

This is the third State Show Riding Championships held by Pony Club NSW. With the inaugural championships held in 2005 at Morriset Showground. The 2007 championships was unfortunately
cancelled due to the Equine Influenza Outbreak.

Riders from the tender age of five through to twenty-four and their families will come from across NSW to compete in this two-day competition. Competitors represent the best riders from Pony Clubs across the State, each rider has had to be qualified and selected at a regional level prior to the event.

Show Riding is based on both the rider's and the horses' attributes. There are classes to examine the rider's position and the effectiveness of their aids, while other classes examine the horses conformation, soundness, and movement. It is the rider's job to demonstrate to the judge that the horse is focused on the rider, is obedient to change of pace and direction, and this must look as though it is all happening effortlessly. Show riding also examines the rider's ability to coordinate riding with a partner or several other riders, in events such as Team of Four and Pairs.

This is the final State Pony Club Championships for 2008. Eight championships are held through out the year in disciplines of Dressage, Showjumping, Eventing, Sporting, Camp Drafting, Mounted Games and Jumping Equitation. The Championships are a chance for young riders to represent their region, compete with the best riders from across the State, while making new friends from far and wide.
Pony Club is a voluntary youth organisation which promotes the physical, mental and spiritual development of young people, while assisting them to gain knowledge and become proficient in their
chosen sport. There are approximately 285 clubs across NSW, from Bega to Bourke, Cootamundra to Casino and everywhere in between.
