Olympic Games 2008 - Horses Held up in Transit

Hong Kong - 7th August

The arrival of 24 Olympic horses into Hong Kong was delayed due to strong winds and heavy rain which have lashed the Olympic city in a seasonal typhoon.

Fourteen of the horses were from China, the USA and the United Arab Emirates and they were held over in Amsterdam and taken to a stable near the airport, until the weather conditions were more favourable.

Ten horses from Australia and Saudi Arabia were held up en route and were offloaded in Dubai and stabled at a quarantine area.

These horses were the final equines to arrive for the commencement of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in Hong Kong.

We were very pleased to hear word that all horses have now arrived safely to the Olympic stable complex and will be ready for the commencement of the Games on Friday.

The first horse inspection takes place tomorrow at 4.00 pm and the Eventing Dressage starts at 6.30 am Hong Kong time (8.30 Australian time) on Saturday morning.

Toni-anne Collins and I will be ringside and hope to bring a few reports throughout the day as the Aussies appear.... SO, watch this space.
