Showjumping Day

November 2004
Four Star
The showjumping of the four star class
was held late in the afternoon and of the 15 to complete the cross country
course only Rob Vlasschaert's Sagamore Mistral was withdrawn.
The tough showjumping course produced
only two clear rounds with the first being by Kadi Eykamp on Iz'Bella
Roselini moving the pair from 9th after the cross country to finish 6th
overall. Third overnight Shane Rose and Beauford Miss Dior put behind
them the nightmare of 2002 (where they had lead into the final phase only to
knock down the second last fence) to jump clear putting the pressure on the
two remaining riders. Jessica Irvine-Brown and Belcam Aberdeen when
next and had a horror round knocking down 6 rails and collecting three time
penalties to finish in third on 81.40. Sammi McLeod and Black Odyssey
were the final pair to go and all was going well until the treble eventually
finishing with four down and 13 time penalties to take second on 80.80.
Shane Rose's clear showjumping round won the event as he finished with 60.40
after adding only 0.8 penalties after the dressage. Shane's other
mount was King George who despite having two rails down jumped from fifth to
fourth overall.

CCI **
In such a close competition after the
cross country the showjumping was to prove a vital component of the event.
Another testing showjumping course saw only 8 clear rounds amongst the 36
combinations. Lauren Schodel had been equal 10th after the dressage
and was up to 7th after the cross country but a clear round in the
showjumping left the Young Event Rider Squad member with victory riding
Smooth Criminal on 50.80.
Tim Boland riding Phantom Pursuit was
14th after the dressage and 8th after the cross country also produced a
clear round in the showjumping to take second place on 51.80 while Heath
Ryan and Loot Ta Boot had held 9th spot from the dressage but a clear
showjumping round moved the pair up to third with 52.20.
Overnight leader Boyd Martin riding
Ying Yang Yo had two rails down to drop to 7th place with 56.20 while Megan
Jones who had been in front after the dressage had a rail down to finish
fourth on 52.60. Chris Burton & Newsprint who had been second after
the cross country had two rails down finishing in 8th overall with 56.60.

CIC **
The CIC ** was the first class to go on
Sunday morning in showery conditions which turned to rain before easing for
the last few competitors. Overnight leader Craig Barrett and Mystic
Magic were the last to go and had two rails down but they had enough in hand
to win on a score of 61.90. Sam Lyle and Adelaide owned Royal Marine
jumped clear to finish second on 63.60 while Amanda Coulson and LA Oasis
jumped clear despite the wet conditions to move from 6th after the cross
country to third place on 66.80. Clem Mann and Irish Warrior were
third after the cross country but one rail down in the showjumping was
enough to drop to fourth overall on 67.70.
