Jumping Final Round B,  27th August 2004 at 8.30 PM
Pictures and Report by Berni Saunders

Cento, Cento, Cento, the right hand stand began to chant, and into the to the ring came the amazing grey with the same appeal as a star of the silver screen.  He is a star and doesn't he know it.

Cento and Otto Becker are part of the German Gold Medal team who had only 8 jumping penalties between them after three rounds.  An incredible feat and put them 12 penalties ahead of their closest rivals.  Otto and Cento come to this round full of confidence and like Boulabet, Cento is older and wiser and the atmosphere worked for him rather than acting as a distraction or making him nervous.  Cento loved the lights, the noise and the crowd and made sure that they enjoyed his antics and playing to the crowd.  He was a delight to watch and his performance was a highlight of the Athens Olympics for me.

Otto was born on the 3rd December, 1958 in Aschaffenburg Germany.  He is currently ranked No. 9 in the world.  Cento is a15 YO Grey Holsteiner stallion and he has been there, done that ...

This combination took part in the 2000, Sydney Olympic Games, Otto was 4th placed and the German team was No. 1. Otto also competed in the
1992, Barcelona Olympics riding Lucky Luke, Indvidually ranked 50, Team rank: 11
At the 2002  WEG-S Jerez de la Frontera, Dobel's Cento, Ind. rank: 7 Team rank: 4.
1990, Sweden, Stockholm, - , Pamina, Ind. rank: 5, Team rank: 2.
2003, CH-EU-S Donaueschingen (GER), Dobel's Cento, Ind. rank: 9, Team rank: 1.
2001, Euro Champ. - Final standings, Arnhem, - , Cento, Ind. rank: 10, Team rank: 3.
1991, Euro Champ., La Baule, - , Pamina, Ind. rank: 16, Team rank: 5.
1989, Euro Champ., Rotterdam, - , Lucky Luke, Ind. rank: 31, Team rank: 5.

Cento was a little exuberant and careless in this all important round.  He took down three rails and had one time penalty for 13 in this round for a total of 21.  He finishes the 2004 Athens Olympic Games in 19th place.

Cento and Otto Becker - finished disappointingly in the individual
competition after a more concentrated performance for the team awards.

Juan Carlos Garcia and Albin 111 for Italy, a 16 YO French bred Selle Francais bay gelding. They represent Italy.

Juan Carlos was born on the 2nd. October 1967 in Bogotà Colombia  His current world raking is 95.
He competed at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games riding Quel Type d’Elle and placed 25th individually and the Italian team were 18th.
1988, Seoul, riding Buenos Aires, Individual 51, Team rank: 0.
At World Championships they have participated at ...
2002, WEG-S Jerez de la Frontera, riding Iron, Individual 56, Team place 19.
1990, Sweden, Stockholm, riding  Buenos Aires, Individual place 67
1986, Germany, Aachen, riding Pecuario, Individual 71st. place.

Albin is another horse that made it look very achievable, but seemed to be a little careless on the night.  It is difficult to say for sure, but it looked as if the talented horse would not take his time and concentrate.  The result is a demolition of 5A and another problem at jump 12 a combination.  12 down this round to give a total of 20 and no chance to make it up.  They finish the Athens Olympics down four placings from the first round and in 16 spot.

Albin lll played with the huge jumps and paid the price of three down
in the B round of the final, this put them out of the medals.

It is difficult to say that avoidable mistakes were made but both Cento and Albin lll seemed to have made careless errors and of course they were not able to go back and try again.  On the other hand coming from the same place - 8 penalties in the first round, Baloubet De Rouet applied himself and jumped clear and so far is leading the race for gold.
