SA State Showjumping Championships

April 24th & 25th

Strathalbyn Polo Grounds

The two main classes of the weekend were the Junior and Senior State title.

Matt Afford and Master Red completed two clear rounds to take out the junior event from the joint second placegetters who collected 4 faults each in Sam Turtle & Detective Hooch, previous winner Adam Metcalfe & Maverick and Sarah Willoughby riding St Elmo's Fire.

The Senior class resulted in Leanne Bruggemann and Kristy Bruhn on two clear rounds leading into a jump off.  Kristy and Murph went first going clear then Leanne and Tawjoy took on the challenge and were clear leading into the final group of obstacles when disaster struck and Leanne and Tawjoy parted company. Both horse and rider were OK with the final placings being K Bruhn & Murph first, L Bruggemann and Tawjoy second with Anthony Thomas and Icon third after jumping clear but incurring one time fault during their second round.

Interesting fact for thoroughbred fans is that both Murph and Tawjoy were successful racehorses before taking up their second career.

The final class of the two days was completed in near darkness with all combinations going clear sharing victory - 9 combinations in all.
