The first
week in April 2004 is 'make or break' time for Australia as we look for
an 11th hour opportunity to have an Aussie flag flying in Greece in
August. In Europe this weekend sees the World Cup Final and Kristy
Oatley-Nist in there with a chance on a 'wind card' entry. She
scored 66.45% and came in after the Grand Prix at 13th position.
This was one placing behind the 12 that was required to ride in the 'A
Final' Kur competition. Kristy took part in the B final and as the
results confirm she was the top scorer from the second group - but will
this be enough to gain entry for Athens.
On the
other side of the world, Australia conducted it's National Dressage
Championships over the same weekend - with good scores being recorded
for Ricky McMillan and Mary Hanna - they may just convince the IOC that
we should be part of the Olympics .
We
will not have to wait until early May when the final selection for the
Olympic placings are made. Then it will be up to the Australian
Selectors as to whether or not they will send an Australian rider - we
may be lucky enough to get up to two placings.
So
riders will be suffering 'knife edge' tension wondering for at least a
month ...
