Farewell Ed Rodgers

Farewell - Ed Rodgers
11th February 2004

Our dear friend Ed Rodgers received a fine farewell from a large gathering of Family and friends at St Johns Church, Upper Beaconsfield, on Wednesday the 11th of February.   As the church was only 1 kilometer from Ed’s property, "Mungeribar", his faithful horse "Precious" was plaited and ridden beautifully by Bianca Barnes with the cortège.

They were joined by Ed’s partner Peter and brother Rudi as well as four FEI riders in full turnout. Ed would have loved the pathos of the scene, as they arrived at the church with mist rolling through the tops of the mountain ash.

The service was beautifully supported by a soprano of rare quality rousing emotions with operatic standards. Flowers befitting Ed’s taste surrounded his casket as Lee Bray and Michael Bragge recounted just some of Ed’s many personal and professional achievements. Naturally humorous stories were in abundance as Ed was remembered first at the service and later back at his beloved "Mungeribar". The wake didn’t end there as other groups got together with fine wine and colourful memories of an extraordinary man.

Editors Note:

Ed Rodgers was a 'larger than life personality in the Victorian Dressage world.  He was the long standing President of the Berwick & District Dressage Club and an EFA Dressage Judge.  Ed was a wonderful friend to many people who shared his passion for the sport and will be missed greatly by them all.

Ed was known for his work with Nirvana Tours.  Over the years he escorted many trips to the top the international equestrian venues and events.  His guests raved about Ed's care and attention to detail and the company's motto "not just a holiday - an experience", was the way people felt about their trip with Ed.

We will all miss the quick wit and willingness to help ...  of course we will treasure  Ed's knowledge and caring.  Victorian Dressage has suffered a tragic loss.
