Adelaide International Horse Trials - Showjumping Day Pictorial Report

Adelaide International Horse Trials

Showjumping Day

9 November 2003

The first class for the day was the first division of the two star. Sonja Johnson and Foreign Liasion were in the lead with less than a rail to spare but a horror round from overnight second who incurred 16 penalties (final placing 8th)eased the pressure slightly and Sonja Johnson with only one rail down completed the event a clear winner with 55.70. Second was Tarsha Hammond riding Balmoral R Jay who jumped clear but incurred 3 time penalties to finish on 64.50. Janelle Pitts and Mr Showoff went clear in the showjumping to moved up from 8th position to take third overall.

The second division of the two star event saw a similar finish as the second third and fourth placed combinations after the cross country knocked down rails as others in the top ten went clear in the tightly bunch field (17 penalty points covered 1st to 10th after the cross country). Jane Conway had just under three rails to spare going into her round on Gordonstoun and although two fell this pair crossed the finish beam with victory in the second class of the day. Second place went to Olivia Bunn and GV Sterling Sioux who went clear in the showjumping to move from 8th after the cross country to take second place. Heath Ryan riding Sydney Lights was third.

In the four star Boyd Martin and True Blue Toozac held a one point advantage but Sammi McLeod and Enchanted had two rails down to drop to third overall and this gave Boyd martin the leeway needed. With a 9 point advantage over Stuart Tinney and Jeepster the leading pair had a rail down early in the course. However there were no further problems and Boyd Martin riding True Blue Toozac became the youngest rider to take out the event. Second was Stuart tinney and Jeepster who improved from 4th after the cross country with Sammi McLeod and Enchanted third while Sonja Johnson was fourth on Ringwould Jaguar.
