The top ten horses from the first two rounds were determined by
adding the scores for these performances together. The top three horses were ridden
by Isabell Werth - former Olympic Gold Medallist, and many times the European Dressage
Champion. Her riding mark will be added to the previous score, and the age group
champion was the horse with the highest score. |

Jaybee Accomplice - Warmblood Gelding by Aachimedes (by Aachen) out
of a mare by Nice Balance (sounds like a TB ?) born 24th. September, 1996. It was
easy to see that Isabell Werth enjoyed her ride on the lovely light bay gelding by
Aachimedes. This horse although very immature, was so elastic and showed great
aptitude for his work. Isabell wowed the crowd by asking for (and getting !) a
flying change on both reins. I have seen her video with Dr. Schulten-Baumer and
noticed that flying changes are asked for as a way of changing direction, on their very
young horses. They are not the educated movement that is expected in the higher
levels, but simply a way of getting onto the other canter lead, without interrupting the
flow of the canter. I do not even think a late change if considered of consequence
at this stage. Accomplice did everything right and I would like to have him as 'my
accomplice'.
Isabell awarded this horse 9 for
ridability - the second highest mark of the day (the highest went to Legend 9.5) |

Mayfield
Pzazz - Imported Dutch Stallion, by Jazz out of a mare by Amulet. Born 12th April
1997. What a lovely horse - a very different type to Accomplice - and very hard to
compare the two. I recall the judges saying that it really is a matter of personal
preference/ Pzazz has the 'pazzaz' of a stallion - a magnificent colour and the
beautiful coat that is the stallion's domain. He was a little more 'set' in his way
of going and appeared to lacked the freedom and fluidity of the previous horse - he did
not maintain the same quality to his trot when the reins wee surrendered, but
Isabell was able to improve this as time went on! . Isabell had no
problems with submission and attitude - Pzazz behaved like a true gentleman - I am sure
that this Dutch stallion will add much to the Australian/Victorian horse breeding scene.
Well done Kerry Mack. Isabell gave Pzazz 7.5 for ridability. |

Yaraandoo
a 16.2 hand gelding by Duntroon (frozen semen) out of a Ludendorf mare. Bred by
Heath and Rozzie Ryan, this gelding has it all to offer - but today did not quite deliver.
He could well have just had enough ! He was quite 'gobby' in all of his work,
and this affected the steadiness of his head carriage. When Isabell asked some of
the big questions, he did not respond in the way she would have like to give a high mark
for trainabilty and rideability! He did some leaping and bucking and Isabell did not
seem to loose her focus, and certainly not her very secure seat. She spent a long
time with this horse and gave him every chance to change his mind. She seemed to
really get into the challenge, but time did not allow her to make any real breakthroughs,
today. I am sure that this horse will go on as he worked his way up to this position
based on his two qualifying performances. To be third from this number of wonderful
horses is a great achievement - congratulations to owner Emmanuelle De Denaro. |
