| Race 1 -
3yo Hcp 1000m Squirtle, Blacklist, Mystical Spirit and Bright 'n' Early went
straight to the outside rail as the remainder of the field ran to the inside over the
straight 1000m course. The inside division was led by Quick Game from Cameo Grey followed
by Ponentina while on the outside Squirtle led clearly from Blacklist and Mystical Spirit.
Quick Game and Ponentina drifted to the middle of the track passing the 250m mark where
Squirtle led narrowly from Quick Game and Ponentina with a gap to Bright 'n' Early and
Romeo's Princess. With the field spread across the track Squirtle accelerated by the 150m
mark to lead by a couple of lengths over Quick Game then Ponentina and Romeo's Princess.
Over the final stages Squirtle raced right away to win easily from Quick Game with
Mystical Spirit third and Bright 'n' Early fourth.
Squirtle is a 3yo bay filly by Swamp King
from Zusrab and was ridden by Jason Holder. She is trained by Dan O'Sullivan for FM
D'Agostino and is reportedly the first metropolitan winner for promising sire Swamp King.
Race 2 - 3yo Hcp 1400m
Tumble On Tommy settled in front from Rory's Spirit
followed by Al Batroun and Jeuneola Star then Dancerkov with Outside the Square and French
Revolution at the tail. Little changed until they turned for home where Rory's Spirit
raced up to join Tumble On Tommy before drifting wide leaving room for Al Batroun to make
his run with Jeuneola Star next. Al Batroun hit the front narrowly from Rory's Risk and
Tumble On Tommy passing the 200m as French Revolution started to charge at the leaders.
With 100m to go French Revolution headed Al Batroun as this pair raced well clear of the
field with only Outside the Square making late ground. Inside the final 50m Al Batroun
raised another effort and was too strong on the line to win by a short half head from
French Revolution with Outside the Square third and Tumble On Tommy fourth.

Race 3 - 2yo Hcp 1000m
Again the field split to opposite
sides of the track with Brief Truth leading on the inside from Military Edition, Royal
Jeune and Weeds as Noonetron Belle appeared short in her action and was pulled up out of
the event. On the outside rail Interpreter and Lukeayden led from Double Trap and Roaring
Forties. Passing the 250m mark Brief Truth on the inside rail clearly led from Interpreter
and Lukeayden on the outside followed by Weeds along the inside. At the 50m Brief Truth
still held the front but Interpreter was charging home along the outside rail with Harsh
Prise trying to make ground in the centre. Coming down to the line Interpreter finished
strongly to hit the front and win by a neck from Brief Truth with Harsh Praise a head away
in third.
Interpreter is a bay 2yo colt by Jeune from
Floriani and was ridden by Paul Gatt. He is trained by Peter Hayes for the Group One
Racing Club No.2 Syndicate.
After race three interest turned to the Group
1 WFA Waikato Sprint from New Zealand which featured the return to racing of the champion
Sunline. After having to work hard early for the lead she took over by the 1000m from
Fritz and Spring Rain. Given rein over the final stages she raced away to win easily much
to the delight of the Te Rapa crowd.
Race 4 - Open Hcp 2000m
Victory Grin led early from Surmato then followed by
Star Of Brooklyn and Dholima's Daughter three wide then Astrolante, Evans and Receptor at
the rear. Passing the 1500m Dholima's moved forward outside of Victory Grin followed by
Surmato and Star of Brooklyn then Astrolante. As they straightened with 600m to go Victory
Grin was clear from Star Of Brooklyn and Evans with Surmato making a run along the rail.
With 350m to run Surmato joined Victory Grin as Evans was continuing to make ground down
the centre of the track. Passing the 200m Evans hit the front from Surmato and Star Of
Brooklyn with Victory Grin next. Astrolante and Receptor started to chase Evans in earnest
over the closing stages. Evans had too much in hand to hold on by a long neck from
Astrolante with Receptor close up in third.
Evans is a 4yo bay gelding by Tertian from
Straight Down and was ridden by Dwayne Dunn. He is trained by Gordon Richards for himself,
PJ & EM Mittiga, DP & JM Whiteman, FP Colgan, LA Singleton, RJ Stratman, SJ
Richards and JC Osborn.
Race 5 - Class 6 Hcp 1800m
Mister Discreet jumped fast to easily cross the field
to lead from Cocus followed by Molitor then Showgazer with Zip Infatuation three wide.
Little changed until they straightened for home where Mister Discreet was still travelling
strongly in front from Cocus then Showgazer starting a run with Running Game looking for a
run along the rails. With 300m to go Mister Discreet led as Running Game ran up behind him
inside Showgazer and Cocus with a gap to the others. Mister Discreet defied the opposition
inside the 150m as Running Game drifted out slightly with Brownlow storming down the
centre of the track. In the final 50m Running Game got out and charged after the leader
but it was all too late as Mister Discreet won by a nose from Running Game with Cocus just
holding third in front of Brownlow with Showgazer close up in fifth.

Race 6 - 1MW Hcp 1450m
Royal Realm settled in front from
All Cheer followed by Hillview Express around Pataudi then March Militaire. By the 900m
Royal Realm led by a length from All Cheer followed by Gothic Titan and Pataudi with
Hillview Express wide and March Militaire next. Turning for home Royal Realm led from All
Cheer with Gothic Titan moving out to make his run and Hillview Express even wider as
Pataudi was blocked for a run near the rail. With 200m to go All Cheer moved up to Royal
Realm as Gothic Titan started to weaken and Pataudi got room near the rail. Inside the
final 50m All Cheer got to a narrow lead from Royal Realm as Future Command started to
finish fast down the outside and Pataudi fought on along the inside. On the post All Cheer
was a long head in front from Royal Realm with Future Command third and Pataudi fourth in
a blanket finish.
All Cheer is a 5yo bay gelding by What a

Race 7 - Class 6 Hcp 1500m
Hapsburg Gold and Flame
Bird shared the lead early but soon after they settled into stride Hapsburg Gold raced
away with a huge lead from Flame Bird followed by Killorelin Belle, Motto's Belle and
Fortuna. Little changed as they turned for home where Hapsburg Gold led by an estimated 15
lengths with 500m to run followed by Flame Bird at the head of the rest of the field.
Passing the 400m Hapsburg Gold was still in front by about 12 lengths as the others made
their runs with Flame Bird and Fortuna ahead of Killorelin Belle and Motto's Belle. The
gap was closing slightly by the 200m where Hapsburg Gold was 8 lengths in front but still
looked to have the race in her keeping. Inside the final 50m Hapsburg Gold was stopping
rapidly as Fortuna and Flame Bird charged home but it was too late and Hapsburg Gold held
on to win by 3/4 of a length to Fortuna with Flame Bird close up in third. After the post
Simon Price jumped off Hapsburg Gold and amid fears that she had broken down was found to
have twisted a plate in running which caused a nail to be driven into her hoof causing
bleeding.

Race 8 - Class 3 Hcp 1300m
When the field had settled into stride Aragon
Ruler led from Dee's Dancer followed by Denise three wide then Rations and Loobnan. Little
changed until they turned for home where Dee's Dancer hit the front from Aragon Ruler with
Rations starting a run out wider with Freak Out appearing to stumble and Biscay Blaze
starting to run on from last. Dee's Dancer and Aragon Ruler fought it out passing the 200m
as Late Night Out tried to make ground along the fence with Rations in the centre of the
track and Biscay Blaze in full flight after the leaders. Inside the final 50m Biscay Blaze
joined the leaders and stormed by in the shadows of the post to win by 3/4 of a length
from Aragon Ruler with Dee's Dancer a nose away third.
Biscay Blaze is a 5yo chestnut gelding by
Hearten from Caberet Miss and was ridden by Linda Meech. He is trained by Andrew Carraill
for himself, S Reed, I Ongley, K Dixon, B & L Garrod, L Hinchliffe, G Harris, M Gill
