| The first Magic
Million sale in Adelaide was held from February 21 to 23, 2000 with the first two days
featuring the Select Sale and the final day the Summer Session. For the Select sale the
sale total was up from previous years with the sale aggregate totalling $9,975,500 with an
average price of $35,002 and the top price of $230,000 for lot 95. The total lots sold was
285 with 19 withdrawn and 46 passed in. For Wednesday's Summer session The sale aggregate
totalled $1,503,750 with an average price of $13,308. The top price was $52,000 for lot
390. Total lots sold was 1113 with 19 withdrawn and 39 passed in. All yearlings sold are eligible for the Magic Millions race series including a new $400,000 2yo race scheduled to run on Tokyo City Cup day February 2001.
This brown filly is a half sister to two winners in Pray for Wings (by Amen Brother) and Ganbattee (by Euclase) and is an August foal. Her sire will have his first Australian runners next spring but has already sired stakewinners such as Silky Feather, It's Personal, Prospector's Flag, etc in the US. She was offered by AJ Crabb & Sons Pty Ltd of Smithfield SA and was sold to R Griffiths of Victoria for $70,000.
Although he is a November foal this bay colt is well grown and is a half brother to two winners in Yeatman (Our Poetic Prince) and the promising Torlina (by Western Symphony). His sire is well known as the sire of stakewinners such as Ballroom Babe, Love to Dance, Wynciti, Citi Success, etc and was Champion NZ sire of 2yos in 1994-95 & 1995-96. He is related to the stakewinners Sunny Coronation, Far Hills, Miss Sunnytime and Kildaire Pride plus prolific winners Master Kildaire and Sir Kildare through his grand dam Sun Festival. He was offered by Toorak Thoroughbreds of Macclesfield SA and was purchased by Paul Willetts of NZ for $26,000.
Despite very spirited bidding this bay filly failed to reach her reserve of $150,000 when the action stopped at $110,000. She is a half sister to stakewinners Exculsive Halo (by Don't Say Halo) and Miss Jugah (by Jugah) and winners in Jewel of Oakbank (by Alzao), Exculsive Honour (by Bellwater), Trackman (by Francis Bacon) and Kickaha (by Bluebird). Last Tycoon is best known in Australia as the sire of stakewinners Mahogany, Lady Jakeo, Magic of Money, Tracey's Element, O'Reilly, Tycoon Lil, etc. This filly was offered by Mill Park Stud as agent for Ingleburne Pty Ltd of Meningie SA.
A bay colt this offering by Gawler Park Stud is the first foal of the unraced False Moon and a member of the first Australian crop of Danzig Connection who has produced numerous stakeswinners from his US stud career. The colts pedigree shows that he traces back to a stakewinning family through his 4th dam the wonderful matron Grable who produced 15 foals for 13 winners. Included in these foals is the stakeswinner Elegant Shell (who is the grand dam of this bay colt) and My Evita who went on to produce Group 1 winner and successful sire Vitalic. He was sold to Ron Dufficy of NSW for $20,000.
The dam of this brown colt was a multiple winner and is a half sister to the stakewinners Cameronic & Fire Stick and stakesplaced King Ozzie, Fire Twig, Fire Wonder, He's a Steel. This is her first foal and was offered by Tirona Park Stud of Williamstown SA and purchsed by Ian Denny of Victoria for $15,000.
This bay colt is a half brother to the multiple stakeswinner Winged Foot plus winners Mystic Sands and Ballybunyon who were all sired by Raami. He is the last foal from his dam who died 6 months after his birth. Despite the quality of stallions represented at this years sales Rory's Jester still reigned supreme when it came to the most sought after stock. This filly who is a half sister to stakewinner Glenpost and sister to stakesplaced Hon Kwok Treasure plus 4 other winners was offered by Flower Hill Stud of Birdwood SA and remarkably failed to reach her reserve of $50,000 with bidding stopping at $40,000.
From a small amount of runners Kenvain the sire of this colt has produced the calibre of stakewinners such as Sedation and Dallaeni plus stakeplacegetters such as Mister Bow, Cybervain, Wiradancing, Land of Dreams , etc. The dam of this colt was a group 2 winner of the SAJC Breeders Stakes and has five foals to race for five winners. These include the Sandown Guineas placegetter Kentucky Blue and Melbourne winners Act Of Devotion and Blue Gum Girl. He was offered by Toorak Thoroughbreds as agents and was purchased by Stuart Gower of SA for $34,000.
This colt offered by Glenlogan Park Stud has a pedigree filled with black type and is a member of the family of Tennessee Vain (who produced Tennessee Morn, Tennessee Mist, Tennessee Magic, etc) Tennessee Jack and Vain Rancher through his dam Go Misty who is a half sister to this group also being out of Misty Vain. He was purchsed by IOI Thoroughbreds of Singapore for $32,000.
This colts pedigree features a cross of the most succesful sirelines of the Northern Hemisphere (through the Northern Dancer line from which his sire descends) and the Southern Hemisphere (through the Star Kingdom sireline of Greenwich Pike). His dam was the winner of seven races and a half sister to the ill fated sire Average Game. She has produced five winners to date including the stakewinners Rechabite (by Noalcoholic) and Century Pike (by Century). Offered by Zahia's Lodge, Hahndorf SA he was purchsed by Northfields Bloodstock of South Africa for $35,000.
Another of Zahia's Lodge offerings was this colt who is the sixth living foal of Grey Twig. Her previous foals have all raced and are winners including stakewinners Striking Twig (by Pre Emptive Strike) and the VRC Oaks winner My Brightia (by Bellotto). He was purchased by Peter Cullen of WA for $80,000.
For the family of Gypsy Kingdom, Our Planet, Ideal Planet and Innocent King this filly is a half sister to the stakewinning Irises (by Tate Gallery) and the winners White Queen (by Danehill) and Arranmore (by Pre Catelan). By the champion sire of Naturalism, Cigar, Anthems, etc he was offered by Collingrove Stud as agent and was purchased by WJ, DM & MW Lewis of SA for $10,000.
This colt is a member of the first crop of Gold Ace whose yearlings were sought after throughout the sale. He is the second foal of his dam who was a multiple Melbourne winner. He was offered by Wood Nook Farm of Nagambie Victoria and was purchased by Tai Bloodstock of Hong Kong for $47,500.
The top priced yearling of the sale was this filly offered by Gawler Park Stud. She was purchased by Peter Hayes (who trains her stakewinning half sister Nina Haraka) for $230,000 and also traces back to Misty Vain who is listed as her third dam.
This filly is a member of the first Australian crop of European stakeswinner Ashkalani. She was offered by Arrowfield Stud and is a member of a family that features stakes winners such as Gildoran, Latin Quarter, Detroit, Baryshnikov and champion sire Zabeel. She was purchased by John Thompson of NSW for $44,000.
L Offered by Flower Hill Stud of Birdwood SA this filly is by the sire of stakewinners such as Brawny Spirit, Rustic Dream, Sequalo, Marstic, Rustessence, etc. Her dam is the stakes placed Marine's Rocket who has produced four foals to race for four winners including the stakes placed Prince Brodie (by New Regent). This filly was bought by MA Dux of Queensland for $30,000.
This colt is sired by Kentucky Derby winner who has already sired two 2yo stakewinners in his first Australian crop. His dam is the stakeswinner Mohave Dancer and is her first foal but his grand dam foaled four winners. She is also a half sister to Echo Lass (dam of Des's Dream) and Life at the Top both stakewinners. He was offered by Mill Park as agent and was purchased by DC Harrison of Victoria for $155,000.
Morlin Maid produced seven foals to race with all being winners including Love of Mary (by Zedative) a muiltiple group 2 winner and Pennines (by Marscay) who was stakesplaced. This colt is a member of the first Australian crop of King's Theatre and was offered by Eliza Park Stud. He was purchased by Denis Roberts Bloodstock SA for $45,000.
This colt who is by Last Tycoon is a half brother to the promising Assembly Line and traces back to Semenova the dam of Sovereign Chief, Eloquent Edition (stakesplaced dam of Daney Boy & Magic of Sydney), Super Imposing and Wild Dancer (dam of Straight Wilder). He was offered by Brandon Farm Pty Ltd of Oakbank and purchased by Henry Plumptre of Victoria for $57,000.
Lot 178 Keltrice - Racheck (by Body Check) Although none of Rachecks foals have yet hit the racetrack (the oldest is a 3yo) her dam was a successful matron. Better Comment was a stakeswinner herself and produced 7 winners including Racheck and Stenorette (dam of Full and By, Dancefloor Doll and Makepeace who in turn foaled Make A Scene). This filly is sired by Keltrice who from limited opportunities has produced the promising Lezayre and stakeswinner Northeast Sheila). She was offered by Lakewood Stud as agent and was purchased by Tony Noonan for $50,000.
This yearling featured a northern hemisphere pedigree being from the US mare Secondhand Song and sired by the Sadler's Wells stallion King's Theatre. The notable Australian link is through the fillies second dam Lilt who foaled the stakewinner Triumphal March who won a Moonee Valley Cup in the early 80s other US stakewinners in the family are Bag of Tunes, Cormorant, Swingtime and Prophecy. This filly was offered by Eliza Park Stud as agent and was purchased by Adam Sangster of Victoria for $36,000.
This yearling was the first by Danehill to be sold at an Adelaide sale. The price of $120,000 that he was sold to D Baertschiger of Singapore was slightly below what many had expected looking at his pedigree. He is a half brother to stakewinning sprinter You Remember (by Gold Carat) and another four multiple winners. Other stakeswinning members of the family are La Neige and Silver Sharpe. He was offered by Wood Nook Farm of Nagambie Victoria.
Another expected highlight yearling of the sale was Laebeel's half sister by Naturalism. From a family that traces back to the stakewinning Froth who produced stakeswinner Swift General and was the grand dam of Interstellar and Malt (dam of Horlicks) this filly is a half sister to four winners. She was offered by Alabama Stud of Scone and was purchased by Lorna Moore of Victoria for $27,000.
The second of the Danehill yearlings this colt is the second foal of Spell On You. This mare descends from an international family filled with stakeswinners such as Seattle Song, Lucky Spell, Unbridled's Song, etc and she is a half sister to Group 1 placed Critical Factor. The colt was offered by Mill Park Stud as agent and was purchased for $80,000 by Nick Assiotis of SA.
By the sire of stakewinners Intergaze, Southbend from very limited opportunities this colt is the third living foal of Sweet Caitlin. His grand dam is the stakeswinner Sentosa who produced six winners plus Princess Sentosa the dam of stakeswinner Blue Blood. Offered by Alabama Stud of Scone he was purchased by T & J Andrews of WA for $22,000.
This colt is a half brother to the group 2 winner Pennyweight Point plus the winner Auschamp and promising Bold Endeavour. He was offered by Milluna Park Stud and narrowly failed to meet his reserve of $15,000 with bidding stopping at $14,000.
Offered by Milluna Park Stud this yearling is a full sister to the talented stakeswinner Gold Crystal who won as a 2yo and has carried that form into her 3yo season. Mint of Gold has also sired the stakeswinners Mint of Gold, Smytzer's Rivalry and Gilded Angel with 31 winner from 51 runners to date. She was purchased by Wong Soo of Malaysia for $42,500.
Delighting his vendor (Sharondon Park Stud) this yearling was the top priced colt of the sale selling to BJ Smith of NSW for $160,000. He is the third foal of his dam and is a full brother to Miss Peridot and traces back to a black type US family.
This colt comes from the family of renowned WFA front runner Vo Rogue who won 26 races including two Australian Cups. His grand dam is Roguessa who foaled five to race all winners including the stakeswinners Gypsy Rogue and Voguessa. He is a half brother to the promising Verbal Rogue and was ofered by Erinvale Thoroughbreds as agents. He was purchased by ML Jackson of Victoria for $17,500.
This filly was offered by Shamrock Park of Meadows SA and is a half sister to the stakeplaced Henry's Hill and Funster. Through her third dam she traces to Bold Promise the dam of Merlene, Miss Pennymoney and Compulsion. She was purchased by Gilgai Farm Pty Ltd of Victoria for $92,500.
Offered by KG Edwards of Casterton Victoria this colt is a half brother to the stakewinner Trousers (by Quick Score) and to three other winners. His sire has sired 31 winners from only 49 runners including Kingston Way, Lord Kingston, Mr Bombastic, etc He was purchased by Equine Syndicate of Queensland for $15,000.
This yearling is the fourth foal from promising broodmare Belette. Her first two foals in Aquascene (by Scenic) and Aquaton (by Roi Danzig) are both winners and have shown a lot of promise for the future. This colt is sired by Bellotto who has sired 28 stakewinners including Bellzevir, Bullwinkle, Clang, Bonotto, etc. He was offered by WJ & DM Lewis and was purchased by Anthony Perkins of SA for $50,000.
This is the fifth foal of Brondquill who was a good racemare recording 8 wins and numerous placings. Her first two foals Damon (by Damister) and Gold Heritage (by Made of Gold) are winners and her latest 2 foals have shown promise. This filly was offered by Milluna Stud and was purchased by John Foote Bloodstock for $31,000.
This yearling is the first foal of Cliko who recorded numerous placings in stakes races in addition to her three victories. The female family traces back to stakeswinners Dream's Delight, Roman Laurel, Recollect, etc. This colt was offered by Fulmen Park as agent and was purchased by Magic Millions as agent for $65,000.
As a juvenile Confederate Lady showed great promise until she was injured as a late 2yo. She is a half sister to Subzero (by Kala Dancer), Bensynd (by Gunsynd) and Ease and Comfort (dam of Centro, Proven Valour and Dr Zackary). She has had three foals to race for one winner and Cee Cee (by Chiefs Crown) a promising 2yo. This filly was offered by Arrowfield Stud and was purchased by Denis Roberts Bloodstock for $36,000.

She was offered by Kambula Stud as agents and was purchased by Joe Hall of SA for $52,000.

Her dam is a half sister to stakeswinner Rom's Stilletto with group 3 winner New Smyrna also a member of this family. She was purchased by Anthony Tucker from SA for $10,000.
This yearling was one of only two Keepers fillies offered this year.
